School holidays in Turkey 2026-2027

In this short publication, we’ll explore the topic of school holidays in Turkey in 2026-2027. We’ve reviewed data from recent years and compiled a tentative schedule for the 2026-2027 school year in Turkey. We’ll also provide a list of public holidays when Turkish students have a break from school.

School holidays in Turkey 2026-2027 (approximate dates)

The information below is for reference only. We will publish the exact dates for the 2026-2027 school holidays in Turkey as soon as they are confirmed. Below is a list of preliminary school holiday dates in Turkey for the 2026-2027 academic year.

  • Summer holidays 2026 – from June 29 (Monday) to September 6 or 13 (Sunday), 2026.
  • The first day of school is September 7 or 14 (Monday), 2026.
  • The first break (autumn holidays) is from November 9 (Monday), 2026 to November 15 (Sunday), 2026.
  • Semester break (winter holidays) – from January 25 (Monday) to February 7 (Sunday) 2027.
  • The second break (spring break) is from March 8 (Monday) to March 14 (Sunday), 2027. See possible options below!
  • Summer holidays 2027 – from June 21 or 28 (Monday) 2027.

Summer break has always ended after the 36th week of the year. But in 2026-2027, it begins quite late (at the end of June, not mid-June as in previous years). Therefore, we assume it will end a week later, on September 13th, although this is unlikely.

The first school holiday (the mid-term break of the first semester) falls in the 46th week. This has happened every year for the past five years. In recent years, the break between semesters has always fallen in the 4th or 5th week.

The second school break (spring break) is usually associated with Ramadan. However, in 2027, it falls between March 9 and 11, which is quite early. Since the mid-term break usually falls on an even-numbered week, the following dates are possible:

  • from March 8 (Monday) to March 14 (Sunday), 2027.
  • from March 22 (Monday) to March 28 (Sunday), 2027.
  • from April 5 (Monday) to April 11 (Sunday), 2027.

Summer holidays in Turkish schools usually begin in the second half of June. We’ve provided two options just in case, as the start date of the school year (and therefore its length) can vary.

Public holidays in Turkey 2026-2027

In this section, we’ve compiled a list of public holidays throughout the school year. These days can be safely added to the Turkish school holidays in 2026-2027. Please note that on the eve of Ramadan Bayram and Eid al-Adha, schools are open until 12-1:00 PM.

IMPORTANT! The government may introduce additional days off around the holidays of Ramadan-Bayram and Eid al-Adha. This decision is typically made several weeks before the holidays. Be sure to check with your educational institution!

Public holidays in the 2026-2027 academic year

  • October 28, 2026 – Republic Day Eve (shortened day).
  • October 29, 2026 – Republic Day.
  • January 1, 2027 – New Year.
  • March 8, 2027 — Eve of Ramadan-Bairam (shortened day).
  • March 9 – 11, 2027 – Ramadan Bayram.
  • April 23, 2027 – National Sovereignty Day and Children’s Day.
  • May 1, 2027 – Labor and Solidarity Day.
  • May 15, 2027 — Eve of Eid al-Adha (shortened day).
  • May 16–19, 2027 — Eid al-Adha.
  • May 19, 2027 — Commemorative events in honor of Atatürk. Youth and Sports Day.

IMPORTANT! If you or your child attends a private school, please check the school schedule for Ramadan-Bayram and Eid al-Adha. Private schools may introduce additional days off to accommodate long weekends.
